On occasion of International Women’s Day, and in support and transnational solidarity with the women’s movement in Iran, please join us for a film screening featuring selections from the Films from Iran for Iran program. Inspiring a dialogue across generations, the screening will include an introduction by filmmaker Claudine Mulard as well as a conversation between Los Angeles-based filmmakers Gelare Khoshgozaran and Maaman Rezaee, and will be accompanied by light refreshments and snacks.
Films from Iran for Iran is a program of films organized by the feminist film journal Another Gaze that features the work of women and non-binary filmmakers, made from 1979 to the present day, with a focus on experimental and non-fiction work. Exploring ideas around forced and chosen departures, return, mother and other tongues, familial and non-familial feminist and proto-feminist lineages, the program brings together a multitude of diaspora and non-diaspora voices that speak across generations to extend solidarity to the struggle in Iran and contribute much-needed nuance and context to the country’s long history of feminist resistance to state violence.
ICA LA’s program includes:
Iranian Women’s Liberation Movement: Year Zero (Mouvement de libération des femmes iraniennes: année zero), 1979, by Sylvina Boissonnas, Claudine Mulard, Michelle Muller, and Sylviane Rey
Dream of Silk, 2003, by Nahid Rezaei
Men of my Dreams, 2020 by Gelare Khoshgozaran
Minuet For A Disappearance, 2016 and And Their Eyes Were Not Watching Us, 2020 by Maaman Rezaee
