Rafa Esparza: de la Calle
April 22–July 15, 2018
Rafa Esparza will transform ICA LA’s Project Room into a commons, serving as a site for exhibition, production, and collaboration. Working on site with with an assembled group of local artists and nightlife personalities, they will produce works to display at the museum, in a special edition artist book, and a culminating performance event. de la Calle is Esparza’s first solo museum presentation.
sisters and brothers
April 22–June 17, 2018
sisters and brothers presents a selection of early video works from artists Jaguar Mary (Jocelyn Taylor), Cauleen Smith, and Ayanna U’Dongo from 1993 to 2001. This period marks the coinage of the contentious term “identity politics,” which framed much of the art produced in the early 1990s by people of color, women, and the LGBTQ community. sisters and brothers is organized by guest curator Jackie Clay and presented in collaboration with Dirty Looks.

Celebrate the opening of de la Calle and sisters and brothers with a special DJ set by Muñeka aka Samantha Blake Goodman, founder of Rail Up and Movement Arts Performance Space (MAPS). Muñeka is known for her Baile Funk sounds.
