On Saturday, May 20, 2017, the Institute of Contemporary Art, Los Angeles (ICA LA) will host the museum’s inaugural gala bruncheon and will honor acclaimed artist Carrie Mae Weems for her distinguished contribution to contemporary art. The gala bruncheon will be the first event in ICA LA’s new, 12,7000-square-foot home in Downtown Los Angeles, designed by wHY under the creative leadership of Kulapat Yantrasast.
ICA LA’s event recognizes Weems’ extraordinary accomplishments, including her dual commitment to art and social justice, which echo the museum’s mission and values. The gala program will include a welcome by ICA LA’s Executive Director, Elsa Longhauser. Ann Temkin, The Marie-Josée and Henry Kravis Chief Curator of Painting and Sculpture at The Museum of Modern Art, New York, will give a special introduction to Carrie Mae Weems, and a video tribute edited by Nikita Gale will be presented.
The occasion will provide guests a preview of the museum before its official September opening, and an opportunity for ICA LA to celebrate the supporters who are championing its future.
The family-style, brunch menu will be prepared by Winsome’s Chef de Cuisine Matt Bollinger. Ticket prices begin at $500. For further program information and to purchase tickets, contact brunch@theicala.org or 310-284-8100.
