Cindy Rehm & Sara Ellen Fowler: Feminist Love Letters

February 11, 2018
1 PM - 4 PM
Workshops

In 1971 Nancy Spero sent Lucy Lippard a letter with the simple but impassioned message: “The enemies of women’s liberation in the arts will be crushed. Love Nancy.” This note serves as the inspiration for Feminist Love Letters, a project that invites participants to profess their love, send words of support and encouragement, or unleash their feminist fury in a letter to a contemporary or historic feminist. We will provide papers, pens, and stickers to accommodate your epistolary declarations. All letters will be documented and archived at http://feministloveletters.tumblr.com.

Sara Fowler and Cindy Rehm initiated Feminist Love Letters on Valentine’s Day 2016, for a Women’s Center for Creative Work residency at the LA Art Book Fair.

Sara Ellen Fowler is an artist and poet who studied at the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee and Art Center College of Design. She is the founding editor of Los Angeles-based magazine collective PLOTS BY CLOTS and co-curates VOLUBLE, an interdisciplinary channel of the Los Angeles Review of Books. Her work has been published through Green Gallery Press, Hysteria, and Office Hours LA. She has shown in Miami, New York City, Milwaukee, and Los Angeles.

Cindy Rehm is a Los Angeles based artist and an educator. She serves as co-facilitator of the Cixous Reading Group, and is co-founder of Craftswoman House, a project dedicated to showing feminist work in nontraditional spaces in Southern California. Rehm’s work has been shown at venues including: Elephant; Los Angeles, Woman Made Gallery; Chicago, LACE; Los Angeles, Goliath Visual Space; Brooklyn, Paul Robeson Gallery; Rutgers, ARC Gallery; Chicago, Transformer; Washington DC, Interaction IV; Sardinia, Italy, the Archeological Museum; Varna, Bulgaria and at Mains d’Oeuvres; Saint Ouen, France.
