No Go Backs
By Stanya Kahn ©2020
TRT: 33 minutes
A 33-minute short, shot on super 16mm with an original sound score and no dialogue, No Go Backs follows two teenagers (and real-life friends) who leave the city for the wild, only haphazardly prepared. From the heart of the city, they cut an arduous path along sites of California’s historic water wars, traveling north into the monumental landscapes of the Eastern Sierra. In the haunted precarity of a collapsed world, the kids travel in dreamlike states of distraction, malaise, and resilience. As they eventually encounter other kids along shared roads and the prospect of camaraderie in facing the unknown, the film becomes a compressed, allegorical epic about an entire generation that must make a new way forward.

We sure are, outdoors! …just please not inside the actual Cinema. Bringing your best friend only enhances the experience for you and we aim to keep you as comfy as possible. As long as you ensure your pet is curbed properly and does not disturb neighboring guests while at the Outdoor Cinema. Pets may be walked over on the Crenshaw Blvd sidewalk if desired, just remember to please keep the little guy away from other guests. PLEASE DO NOT BRING PETS INSIDE THE ACTUAL CINEMA.
MAY WE BRING LAWN CHAIRS AND SIT OUTSIDE IN FRONT OF MY VEHICLE?
Unfortunately, safety COVID guidelines prevent us from further allowing any quests to sit outside the boundary of their vehicle. Besides, you get such a better view sitting up top a little higher, then sitting on the floor. Please plan accordingly, as we will be politely enforcing this rule, for everyone’s safety. Slight exceptions may be allowed, on a case by case basis.
CAN I SIT IN MY TRUCK BED?
CAN I THROW THE HATCH OF MY HATCHBACK UP AND SIT IN THE BACK TO WATCH THE SHOW?
- Guests are allowed to sit in their truck beds, so long as they keep their protective masks on.
- Raised hatches proved quite obstructive to rows of cars behind them in viewing the screen. You will be asked to park either to the sides of our car staging area, or along the back rows. And – like truckbeds and convertibles – if your hatch is open, we ask that you keep your masks on.
