Girl on Wire Redux is a performance project by Marfa-based artist and hairdresser Ryann Bosetti in collaboration with artist Hayden Dunham and designers Simone Rocha and Ashish. The performance brings together movement and narrative for what Bosetti describes as a “technical demonstration of femaleness.” Girl on Wire Redux addresses the subjugation and objectification of women by reclaiming the visual and formal qualities of hair. “I want to field the violence, to intervene, to rectify, to cauterize, via my reverence for my material,” writes Bosetti, “and I want my audience to perceive my longing and my rage.”
PERFORMANCE PROMPTLY AT 4:30PM
This program is presented in conjunction with Marfa Book Company’s experimental pop-up at ICA LA. The Marfa Book Company collaboration with ICA LA is generously underwritten by Michael Silver.
Ryann Bosetti is an artist, author, and licensed hairdresser based in Marfa, Texas. Her book Regarding Head Shape: Acknowledgement of the Haircut as Form was published by Publication Studio in 2010. Bosetti’s hairdressing practice has been featured in such publications as Vogue and Unconditional.
