Join us for an afternoon fundraiser benefiting Ukraine relief efforts. This event features a cyanotype* textile print workshop with artist Tanya Brodsky, a reading by artist Julia Tcharfas, and a film program curated by Inga Lace and Asha Bukojemsky, together with soviet-era animation by Yevgeny Sivokon. Guests will be invited to purchase baked goods from diverse bakers and chefs, flowers by downtown florist Lenita by Grita, and enjoy a special music playlist produced by Kyiv-based folk band ЩукаРиба (ShchukaRyba). All proceeds raised will go directly to Razom.

*Cyanotype is one of the earliest photographic techniques that uses a solar-generated printing process. Discovered in 1842 and distinctive for producing rich, blue monochromatic prints, Cyanotype was used through the mid-20th century as an inexpensive method for reproducing documents (hence the enduring architectural term “blueprint”) and for making impressions of biological specimens (“photograms”).

1-3pm: Screening program curated by Inga Lace and Asha Bukojemsky, featuring works by Oleksiy Radynski, Dana Kavelina, Uli Golub, Mykola Ridnyi, Yarema Malashchuk and Roman Khimei, alongside soviet-era animation by Yevgeny Sivokon.
1-3pm: Cyanotype textile workshop with Tanya Brodsky. Learn to create blue solar prints on yellow t-shirts using original drawings, printouts, and found objects. Take home your finished project (all materials provided).
3-4pm: Reading by artist Julia Tcharfas from her recent Topical Cream essay, Donetsk Through the Museum, the Monument, and the Diary

About the organizers:

Asha Bukojemsky is a Ukrainian-Canadian independent curator based in Los Angeles. She produces public projects, exhibitions, and talks that engage with the construction of identity in a shifting geopolitical landscape. Since 2017 she has produced Marathon Screenings, a series of salon-style film & video presentations, as well as exhibitions and projects in collaboration with: JOAN; 18th Street Arts Center; Active Cultures; Oregon Contemporary; Neutra VDL House; Creative Migration, amongst others. She graduated with an MLITT from University of Glasgow and a BFA from Concordia University, Montreal. She is the current Program Coordinator at X-TRA Contemporary Art Journal.

Tanya Brodsky is a Ukrainian-born artist and educator, based in Los Angeles. Working primarily in sculpture, she draws on the hidden logics and bureaucracies governing each built environment, whether they be the dilapidated playgrounds of her Soviet childhood, or the electrical and plumbing systems that make buildings habitable. Brodsky holds an MFA from UC San Diego and a BFA from RISD. Her work has been reviewed in Artforum, Hyperallergic and Carla, and has been recently exhibited at The Magic Hour, Ochi Projects, and Visitor Welcome Center. Her public art installation, “Yolki Palki,” is currently on view in West Hollywood.
