This conversation is organized by the Hammer Museum in conjunction with Witch Hunt, an exhibition of 16 international artists on view at ICA LA and Hammer Museum from October 10, 2021 – January 9, 2022.

Hammer chief curator and Witch Hunt co-curator Connie Butler moderates a discussion with artist Leonor Antunes and curator Jenelle Porter. Contextualizing Antunes’s work within the context of modernism’s global impact on architecture and design, Porter focuses on lesser-known female practitioners, including the American fiber artist Kay Sekimachi and the German-born textile artist and designer Trude Guermonprez. Antunes then shares her layered approach to research and her focus on underrepresented female histories of craft and design. Her work for Witch Hunt, the homemaker and her domain I and I (2021), pays tribute to modernist female textile artists and designers such as Guermonprez, Kay Sekimachi, Anni Albers, Ruth Asawa, and Lina Bo Bardi, among others.
