Artist Talk: Wu Tsang

December 04, 2019
7 PM - 9 PM
Public Programs
Talks & Panels

Join us for an artist lecture by Wu Tsang, presented in partnership with the UCLA Department of Art, School of Art and Architecture where Tsang is the Fall 2019 Art Council Chair.

Wu Tsang is an award-winning filmmaker and visual artist whose practice explores hidden histories, marginalized narratives, and the act of performing itself. Often hybridizing documentary and fiction, her films re-imagine racialized, gendered representations beyond the visible frame.

Her projects have been presented at museums and film festivals internationally, including the Museum of Modern Art (New York), Guggenheim Museum, Tate Modern London, Stedelijk Museum (Amsterdam), Kunsthalle Münster, Antenna Space (Shanghai), Hiroshima MOCA, Kuandu Museum (Taipei), MCA Chicago, MOCA and Hammer Museum (Los Angeles), Nottingham Contemporary, Berlinale Film Festival (Berlin), SANFIC (Santiago), Hot Docs Festival (Toronto), and South by Southwest Film Festival (Austin). She has received grants from Guggenheim and Rockefeller Foundations, and the MacArthur “Genius” Award.

Prior to the lecture, audience members will be able to see ICA LA’s current exhibitions No Wrong Holes: Thirty Years of Nayland Blake and Sadie Barnette: The New Eagle Creek Saloon.
