Art Babes Story Hour with Molly Allis

October 17, 2019
11:30 AM - 12:30 PM
Families
Public Programs

Art Babes Story Hour invites children to enjoy stories with artists in the museum. Our story time features artists who have authored children’s books, as well as artists who will read a selection of favorite stories.

Hooray, What A Day, a children’s coloring book by Molly Allis, is the first bilingual story in the All Together Now! series that follows Frankie, a non-binary kid, having a joyful day in their neighborhood, with their intergenerational community of friends.

All Together Now! is a queer inclusive world, centered around a community of people with different gender identities, body types, abilities, family structures and cultural backgrounds. Community members in a fictional urban neighborhood learn valuable lessons by sharing their stories and skills with each other, creating an environment that celebrates accessibility, kindness and self-love.

Join us for an afternoon of coloring and story time, with snacks and refreshments.

Molly Allis (she/they) is a queer artist, educator, filmmaker, and musician. Their work focuses largely on community-building through storytelling and play. Molly studied directing and design for theater at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts, with a focus in puppetry. During that time she worked with the renowned Bread & Puppet theater in Vermont, as well as Great Small Works Toy Theater Company in Brooklyn. Molly has created animations that have won awards internationally, including at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston, the Brooklyn Academy of Music, the Madrid Experimental Film Festival, and the Linoleum Festival in Moscow. In 2014, Molly received their MFA from California Institute of the Arts, with a focus in Integrated Media. At Occidental College, the City of Santa Monica Cultural Affairs, and Kidspace Children’s Museum, among other organizations, she has created interactive installations that take people through imaginary worlds. Molly teaches children how to create stop-motion animated videos, build sculptures out of recycled materials, and construct puppets. Currently, they are developing a queer + inclusive children’s book series and animated world called All Together Now!. Originally from Boston, Molly lives in Los Angeles with their partner and two dogs.
