A lack of representation is not funny. Join us to help broaden the visibility of women in comedy through a Wikipedia workshop presented in collaboration with East of Borneo and part of Art + Feminism 2019. Bring your laptop computer and learn to create and edit Wikipedia articles at this annual worldwide edit-a-thon that closes the gender gap. People of all gender expressions and identities are encouraged to attend. Beginners are welcome.

During the break, we’ll have a special version of the stand-up comedy series JOSH with Michelle Tea, Tara Jepsen, Kirsten Kuppenbender, and Atsuko Okatsuka. Snacks and refreshments provided.

The program takes place in ICA LA’s Learning Space. Drop by anytime from noon to 5pm with your laptop, power adapter, and any reference materials you would like to work from or share. Introductory overview and training sessions for Wikipedia editing beginners are at 12:15pm and 3pm.

Art + Feminism

Art + Feminism is a global do-it-yourself campaign to combat gender bias and improve the coverage of cis and transgender women, feminism, and the arts on Wikipedia, the world’s fifth most popular website. Anyone can edit Wikipedia but not everyone does: only about 15% of Wikipedia editors are female, and this imbalance is reflected in the content.

Co-founded by writers/artists/comics Michelle Tea and Tara Jepson, JOSH is a secret, roving pop-up comedy show usually in private homes.
