Stay cool and stay safe!
As temperatures continue to soar this summer, staying cool is crucial. Los Angeles is bracing for heat waves for the rest of the Summer. Here are some cooling centers and resources available across Los Angeles to help you stay safe during the extreme heat:
Cooling Centers:

Find your nearest cooling center operated by the City of Los Angeles here!

These centers provide air-conditioned spaces where you can cool down and hydration to help individuals stay cool. Dial 211 or visit the Los Angeles Emergency Management Department website for more information.

Transportation to and from a cooling center is available. Call 211 or text 211-211, operating 24 hours a day. * It is free to call for residents of California! *

The ICA LA is a cooling center powered by solar energy! Although we are currently closed in preparation for our next exhibition, we will be open in early October for our upcoming exhibition Scientia Sexualis.

Heat Safety Tips:
  • Stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water and other fluids: Fill a reusable bottle with water to bring around with you.
  • Limit outdoor activities during peak heat hours (10:00AM–4:00PM).
  • Wear protective clothing: If you plan to go out, use sunscreen and wear lightweight, light-colored clothing.
  • Use umbrellas, wide-brimmed hats, or canopies to protect yourself from direct sunlight.
  • If you plan to go out during the peak heat hours, take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned areas.
  • Avoid Hot Cars: Never leave children or pets in cars. Call 911 f you see a child or pet in a car alone!
  • Keep pets indoors if possible: If outside, give them lots of water and shade to rest in.
  • Check in on others: Check on your neighbors and those at risk in extreme heat, like those who are older adults, pregnant woman, children, or have pre-existing health conditions.

If you suspect heat stroke or in the case of an emergency, dial 911.

Heat stroke symptoms include flushed, hot, moist skin or a lack of sweat, high body temperature, confusion or dizziness, possible unconsciousness, throbbing headache, rapid, or strong pulse. Heat stroke may lead to brain damage and death. Call 911 and move the individual to a cool shaded area. Spray the body with water and fan the body.
