The bi-annual benefit event recognizes artists who have made significant contributions to the canon of art history. Enter the Annex and be transported by sound to a meeting point of #language and #politics presented by artists @brognonrollin. Listen to the phrase ‘Maybe some of us will change this’, whistled by Eloy Garcia from his village, Huautla de Jiménez, Oaxaca, Mexico - where the whistle language of #Mazatec is used - that travelled 2.113 miles to the border of Tijuana. The sound of the phrase was recorded on the U.S. side of the border and brought to Los Angeles. Ahead of Printed Matter’s LA Art Book Fair opening on Friday, April 12, join ICA LA artist Patty Chang on Wednesday, April 10 at 7pm @theicala for a live reading with images of ‘The Wandering Lake, 2009-2017’. The artist #book conceptually mirrors the exhibition of the same title now on view in our main gallery. Co-published with Dancing Foxes Press, the book (pictured) is comprised of a photo essay that details Chang’s travels to the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of Western China - the site of explorer, Sven Hedin’s book, 'The Wandering Lake' (1938) - and other aquatic locations. ICA LA’s Curator’s Council is dedicated to exploring #art #culture and #food in #LosAngeles and beyond. Led by ICA LA Curator, Jamillah James, the group recently embarked on a guided excursion to @_desertx in the Coachella Valley (pictured - members with ‘SPECTER’ by #SterlingRuby in Whitewater), a studio visit with #LA-based painter @njidekaakunyilicrosby, a private tour of the newly opened #DTLA outpost of @vielmetter gallery + dining @themanufactoryla. Artists’ studios, galleries and museums are some of the shared learning experiences members enjoy in support of @theicala. The Curator’s Council serves as the lead sponsor of the museum’s Project Room and Courtyard exhibitions, which focus on the emerging and under-recognized voices of our time.
