Patty Chang emerged from New York’s alternative art scene of the mid-1990s, producing works dealing with themes of #gender #language and empathy. Throughout her career, Chang has challenged the parameters of performance and its power as a storytelling vehicle. ‘The Wandering Lake, 2009-2017’ is the culmination of an eight-year project integrating #video projection, #photography, #sculpture, #publication and #performance as one expansive body of work. Originally organised by @queensmuseum, the exhibition presents a narrative experience in Chang’s steps as she follows the migration of a body of water in the desert of Western China. The exhibition’s title is taken after the explorer #SvenHedin’s book ‘The Wandering Lake’ (1938) - a foundation for the artist’s own interpretation of discovery as well as personal mourning, caregiving and motherhood. ‘The Wandering Lake, 2009-2017’ closes August 4 @theicala - visit the museum Wed-Fri 11am-6pm and Sat-Sun 11am-6pm.
