Megan Milks, author of three Feminist Press books on the Amethyst Editions imprint—the short story collection Slug, novel Margaret and the Mystery of the Missing Body, and the just-released essay collection Mega Milk—is an esteemed author whose work helps define Feminist Press’s modern era. Whether Milks is writing about surreal journeys through the human body, the history of American milk consumption, a teenager’s effort to get over the dissolution of their childhood detective agency, or the sexual possibilities of bulls, ancient tortoises, and slugs, Megan’s writing is formally ambitious and daring, as well as sparklingly funny, and a vital component of the emerging trans literary landscape. Their work advances our understanding of what subjects and approaches queer literature can comprise, just as it advances our understanding of queerness itself.
We’re delighted to introduce Megan and their writing as part of the ongoing Feminist Press Bookshelf Residency at the ICA LA, alongside the West Coast leg of their Mega Milk book tour. Megan will be joined by LA’s own Myriam Gurba, award-winning author of Poppy State, Creep, Mean, and other boldly queer books. Myriam’s writing combines startling candor and rage with a ferocious intelligence, a singularly audacious wit, and a spirit of formal adventurousness. She has been called “the most fearless writer in America” by Pulitzer Prize finalist Luis Alberto Urrea.
