ReWrite LA: Mini Civic Assembly
Hey Angelenos! Los Angeles is in the process of reforming its city charter for the first time in 30 years! The city charter is the foundational legal document that defines how our local government works and how the city responds to such challenges as housing, climate, and public safety.
On December 13th, a Mini Civic Assembly organized by the ReWrite LA initiative will take place at the museum. A civic assembly is a rare experiment in direct democracy that invites Angelenos to reimagine the city’s charter reform process from the ground up.
The aim of ReWrite LA is to open the charter reform process up to include storytelling, public deliberation, and consensus-building. If you’re a resident of the city of Los Angeles, this is a unique opportunity to have your voice heard about the pressing challenges facing our communities. Between 40 and 50 residents will be selected, by lottery, to participate in this unique experiment in transparent governance.
